A fish hook The use of the hook in angling is descended, historically, from what would today be called a “gorge”. The word “gorge”, in this context, comes from an archaic word meaning “throat”. Gorges were used by ancient peoples to capture fish. A gorge was a long, thin piece of bone or stone attached by its midpoint to a thin line. The gorge would be fixed with a bait so that it would rest parallel to the lay of the line. When a fish swallowed the bait, a tug on the line caused the gorge to orient itself at right angles to the line, thereby sticking in the fish’s gullet.

This post originally appeared in March It has been updated due to recent proposals to require circle hooks year round for bait fishing in Maryland. Some of the biggest striped bass in the world are caught in Maryland in the early spring. I came away with some interesting information. According to extension agents working with Florida Sea Grant, circle hooks have been used for decades in their state by both recreational and commercial fishermen who appreciate their ability to efficiently catch fish.
The principle behind the hook is simple. After the hook has been swallowed, the fisherman applies pressure to the line, pulling the hook out of the stomach. The actual curved shape of the hook is intended to keep the hook from catching in the gut cavity or throat. The advantage to the fisherman is that hooking is automatic.

Many times whiting and other species are feeding just off the shore in a trough that typically forms between the shorebreak and the first sandbar maybe 30 yards offshore and the required weight needed to hold the rig in place is a 1 ounce pyramid weight. I have fished like that for years and still do because I do catch fish. It’s also great for using a small silver spoon when the glass minnows are in close and schools of spanish mackerel or bluefish are hounding them.
Great light tackle sport!

Male The JJ’s are well built and a good design. I’ve been having a lot of fun with mine on the ice. Some days it out fishes me, but other days the fish pick up the lure and I see the line moving and the JJ hasn’t tripped so I bump the trigger and it sets the hook. There is a fine line on setting the trigger weight between too light and premature trips and too heavy so the fish won’t trip it, but I’m quite happy with how they work. I bought a second unit for company to use or for trips to states that allow more than two poles.
If the fish aren’t hitting dead stick baits they won’t catch much, but most of the time they will get a few.

Posted on November 9, Things are going well for saltwater anglers in North Florida. The headliners of the gulf coast shallows, speckled trout, are chunky, abundant, and biting. The fall mackerel run has been a good one, and plenty of big macks are still being pulled from banks and reefs a short run from shore. Out deeper, bottom fishers are wrestling increasing numbers of good grouper from water to feet deep.
With lakes still in nice shape level-wise, freshwater fishers feel that their finny targets should, too, be biting. But, while bass action is decent and slowly improving, fans of speckled perch are perplexed. Specks typically go on an all-out feed when the November winds begin to blow cool, hunting down minnow schools out in mid-lake depths.
Nobody has a good theory as to why the crappie fishing is so slow during the prime season, but they remain hopeful that the specks will soon hit their fall feeding stride. In many ways, speckled trout are the saltwater equivalent of the speckled perch, and they are certainly cooperating better than their smaller freshwater counterparts. While pre-fishing for reds, a number of teams have caught hefty trout instead. The soft twitchbaits Rick Pena and Jeff Taylor cast near Steinhatchee last weekend in hopes of attracting top-slot reds drew strikes instead from big trout.
They boated quite a few …..

Walks well and floats well. Only caught a few fish but like it a lot. I use other holliw bodies and i can get a hookset, with no problem. I had to buy stinger hooks this winter, in hopes to finally get a hookset, on one of these lures. First time using this bait last sunday the lake forage is shad and bluegill, i use it for couple hour no bite switch to a frog no bite.

But, you do not have any idea on what are the things that you might need in this activity? To help you with that, the first thing you should know is that you will be using a bait to lure and catch the fishes. But you do not have any idea on what are things you should know about this? First, you should know that doing a hunt underwater is commonly known as spear fishing which you will be needing a spear gun to catch your target fish.
Unlike the common way of fishing, doing this means that you should know how to swim and dive since that you will immerse yourself in the water. Spear fishing can also give you a higher chance of catch since that you are nearer with the fishes. And if for you to know more, you can read the list below to help you.
But the pros know that’s not quite true – there are many styles to choose from and gaining experience will help define which is best for your needs. Treble hooks are a great choice when using artificial lures, but also deliver solid performance with cut bait. If quick and easy baiting is a priority, straight hooks are ideal. Taking on a species known for putting up a powerful fight? Offset hooks sink in and hold tight to ensure your catch doesn’t lose the hook before bringing it in.
Durable Fishing Hooks Strength matters, so be sure to consider construction.

Make use of the second factory battery tray and have the install look as factory as possible. These are special crimpers used for “open barrel” terminals. You can search for “delphi crimpers” and find them. The crimpers allow you to make this type of crimp, which is critical. If the crimp is not right, the terminals will not slide into the connector. Start by installing the battery isolator. GM calls this a “secondary auxiliary relay”.
It goes on the firewall, up and left from the brake booster. How you mount it is up to you. If your truck is like mine, then it doesn’t have the needed studs from the factory. Install the relay that controls the battery isolator.
